What is Biodynamic & Integrative psychotherapy?

Biodynamic & integrative psychotherapy emphasizes the importance of the body in supporting psychological, emotional, and physical well-being. 'Biodynamic' stands for 'life force' -  The therapy is a body-oriented therapy, which means that in this work we not only work cognitively, but also through the language of the body.

The founder of this therapy is Gerda Boyesen, a well-known Norwegian psychologist. The therapy is supported by the work of Wilhelm Reich & Alexander Lowen. The background of the therapy is based on the work of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung. Biodynamic and integrative psychotherapy often uses various biodynamic massages and vegeto therapy. This in order to work directly with emotional 'armour' (Vegeto, developed by Wilhelm Reich as a possibility to approach the vegetative nervous system).

People tend to develop armor as a result of emotional stress and trauma from our early lives, as well as the constant social and physical strain of modern life. While a short-term “armour” helps us deal with difficult feelings and stress, in the long-term it suppresses the free flow of spontaneous, natural emotion and well-being in our bodies and consciousness. This sometimes shuts us off from the real joy of living and interacting with other people.

By splitting our sense & awareness of our own body and its experiences from our mental/cognitive experience, the armor can also contribute to psychosomatic disorders and long-term health problems ranging from tension headaches and postural problems to serious illness.

Re-experiencing fun and liveliness is a starting point. This new learning, experience and discovery is supported in the therapeutic relationship and using a wide range of integrative techniques and skills. Marjon's personal approach is based on contact and creativity. Balance between our inner and outer experiences and joint explorations are in the foreground. Integrative stands for: integrating every newly discovered or recovered layer of yourself and thereby letting it be part of who you are today: Completely and whole.
